The German avionics specialist AEE Aircraft Electronic Engineering GmbH will remain the supplier of TETRA radio systems for Airbus Helicopters in Germany for the next 10 years.

It will now also supply Airbus Helicopters in France. AEE Managing Director Phillipp Volz and Lukas Hamm-Riff, AEE accountable manager EASA Part 21G & Part 145, have now signed the corresponding contract for the extension and expansion of the cooperation until 2036.

AEE has been the sole supplier of radio systems for Airbus Helicopters in Germany for around 20 years: the radios are installed in a helicopter control unit, and the associated control panels are installed in the cockpit.

The radio systems supplied by AEE are used, for example, in helicopters for government agencies.

“This system, with Tetra radio as the standard for digital radio traffic, is simply stable and has been successfully approved in the helicopters,” said Hamm-Riff. “We are pleased that we can continue to serve the segment with one of our top-selling products. Our supplier relationship with Airbus Helicopters began with the radio systems. We are now also developing the IdFX mission computer and SNAF for secure military radio communications for the customer.”

The radio systems for Airbus Helicopters in Germany and France are approved at AEE and then delivered to the customer. During development, the German avionics specialist also prepares environmental test reports according to DO-160G for the electronics laboratory Carls as the manufacturer of the devices and supports them with similarity statements when dealing with obsolescence.

“We have been working successfully with the electronics laboratory Carls for many years,” emphasized Hamm-Riff. “Carls is on our list of approved suppliers according to EN9100:2018 and this is what makes our cooperation with Airbus possible in the first place.”
